My First Paid Gig As A Freelancer?

My first paid gig as a freelancer came in my second semester at school. I remembered just learning Adobe illustrator and was talking with my friend John Goodman about my design classes. John said he was starting a company called Heaven Island, and was looking to have a logo created and wanted to know my rates.

I took a day to come up with a price quote. ( I wanted to come up with a reasonable price for John and did not want to over charge him ,but at the same time didn’t want to give a price that was too low, as I wanted my friend to take my work seriously.

I gave a price quote I felt was a fair. John consulted with a few friends and agreed on the price.

I looked online for some sample contracts. Once I found a suitable one I added in a few things to make it relevant to the project. I had a legal aide look it over and presented it to John. After looking the contract over carefully John approved it we both singed. John then gave me some artistic direction , And I was on my way.

Once I had a few rough sketches John picked one and I developed it into a working comp. Once the comp was approved I created the logo.

The project went with out a hitch. Mainly because John and I both handled the situation as two businessmen. We are still friends and recently John contacted me because he misplaced his master logo file. It took me a few days but I was able to track down his project because ,I back up all of my work on a portable hard drive.

I would love to hear the story about your first paid gig.

Stumble it!
