Oh I love it! I would never dare to be that honest on my blog, lol ;)

Only two days ago someone asked me to ‘do them a favour’ by cutting prices to ‘help them out’ because I will ‘get exposure’.

    Deary me…

    Hey Amanda LOL
When I started writing this post I tried to tone it down but I guess my emotions on the subject run deep.

I know I probably offended a few folks but they needed to hear this. I feel great that it’s out this probably won’t be my last out burst.
Hey Amanda it seems like some of these guys are reading from the same play book. I had some one last year offer me a call girl in exchange for me doing their website (that is so disgusting and offensive on so many levels I don’t even know what to say).

    Hey WordPress Modder
I’m glad you enjoyed it I felt great writing it. I think sometimes clients think the free in freelancer means desperate.

    Agree. I really hate:

“Great potential here! A % of profits when site is live!”

I understand some people need to boost their portfolio. Thus, they will take whatever gig they can even if free. I really wish people would stop trying to get everything for free. It’s not a cheap world we live in nor should we be treated as cheap.

Hot off the craigslist press LOL any takers

Site owner looking for a developer/designer partner (Union Square)

The site’s up, but it’s all informational at this point and we’re looking for someone to partner up with in order to make it fully functional. By partner we’re talking ownership or percentage of revenue. This will be an ongoing collaboration, not a one-off thing. You’d be the web guy. Or girl.

    1) convert the Flash site to HTML and re-design for greater usefulness: more content will be added
    2) set up and integrate AdSense
    3) add a blog
    4) add webcam-based evaluations (could be TokBox or simply iChat or Yahoo cams)
    5) integrate PayPal

The right person is gonna have ideas and know how to make ‘em happen. Interested?

    * it’s NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests
    * Compensation: percentage of ownership or revenue

The “Facebook for 500 dollars” is something one of my coworkers came across.

Also, for the offers that are pro-bono but claim that you will get experience and something to add to your portfolio, that happens anyway, whether you’re working for free or not! You will not compromise experience for a paid job, it’s a ridiculous idea.

    JustChris;

I thought the Facebook thing was a joke when I first read it but sadly enough the person was serious about it. The main problem is that people are not respecting the work of others.

Yes! Yes! Yes! It is so nice to find that I’m not alone in my reaction to these scams! I used to work for a company where the owner wanted me to find writers who would research and write 800+ word articles around keywords we would give them. These article topics required research, plus he wanted them to upload them and insert html for things like bolding, bullet lists, etc. The pay? $10 per article. And to add insult to injury, he wanted the right to put someone else’s name in them if he chose. “After all, they got paid.” I was disgusted!!!
