HOW TO GET VISITORS TO TRUST YOUR WEBSITE
By Glen Graham | October 4, 2007
This is part one of a three part series on Building a trusted web presence
Part 1 : “How to get visitors to trust your website”
Your website is an extension of you, if visitors don’t trust your website they won’t trust you. So how do you get a person you have never met to trust you or your website?
making a good first impression:
Just as a person must make a good first impression so should your website. Take a look at the picture of the man above what kind of first impression did he make on you. Now ask your self would you do any of the following business transactions listed below with this person.
- purchase a product or service from him
- let him represent you as a lawyer
- give him your credit card information
- leave him with a cash deposit
- take his advice
Lets say the man above is your website in human form. Just as people make judgments about people before they open their mouths, visitors will make judgments about your website before they read a single word.
On your website you may plan on selling merchandise, giving advice or offering some other services. So potential clients must trust your site before giving you money or access to their personal information.
So how do you make a good first impression that builds some level of trust online?
having a professional appearance:
Having a professional appearance is key to making a good first impression, and will put you on the path to building and establishing trust with a new client.
Below are a list of things your website needs to give that professional appearance.
- if you are using images and graphics on your site make sure they are not pixelated or blurry
- avoid loud clashing colors it will clash with your message
- leave out animations with no purpose
- don’t use out dated animated gifs like these

- don’t use loads of images unless you are an artist, designer or photographer
- avoid pictures of individuals that look like scam artists
- never play with font sizes unless you have a purpose
- excessive ads make your site look gimmicky
- don’t use free email accounts like Yahoo, Aol, Hotmail etc as a way to contact you

Definitely like the fact that you gave us something then asked us to do something in return by subscribing to the blog in order to get more information. Good stuff.
I like the advice too.
Take it easy.
